Gabriel's Oboe

Yeon-Hee Kwak plays “Gabriel's Oboe” theme from "The Mission" film in a 2005 concert.

The oboe is frequently featured in film music, often to underscore a particularly poignant or sad scene. One of the most prominent uses of the oboe in a film score is Ennio Morricone's "Gabriel's Oboe" theme from The Mission.

Yeon-Hee Kwak, the oboist, was born in Seoul, Korea. After completing her studies at Hanyang University in Seoul she came to Germany, where she received her diploma in solo oboe from the State Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart in 2000.

Since 2000, Yeon-Hee Kwak has been deputy principal oboist in the Münchner Rundfunkorchester and on the faculty at the State Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart.

Ennio Morricone, Grande Ufficiale OMRI (born November 10, 1928; sometimes also credited as Dan Savio or Leo Nichols) is an Italian composer especially noted for his film scores.
